Water Clear casting Resin /Free Catalyst

A water clear casting resin for embedding and casting paperweights, specimens etc. Pot life at 20 ºC using 0.5-1% catalyst is approximately 20 minutes.

Norsodyne polyester clear resins.

This is a solvented resin (in this case styrene) it is used mainly for clear inclusions such as paperweights and biological specimens. It uses a catalyst (peroxide) which activates a accelerator in the resin, the speed of the resin can be slightly adjusted by different amounts of catalyst within a set scale of addition . Being solvented it will have a strong smell until cured, until all the styrene has been expelled during the process. This type of resin will shrink by about 5% during the cure cycle. This shrinkage occurs due to a chemical loss of volume (from the polymerization reaction), followed by thermal contraction during cool-down after cure. This will make projects like river tables near impossible as the shrinkage will cause contraction in the void and wrinkling of the air exposed surface of the resin.
